AWARDS

MSDAA awarded this year’s honorees at the general meeting, also shown on ZOOM, on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Ingle Auditorium. Some honorees did not show up for the meeting. John Drury, our treasurer, will send the certificate/plaque out as soon as he gets the address of each honoree. You will see their award and accolades for their accomplishments in no particular order.

Tom Bastean deserved this posthumous award for his dedication to Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association, Missouri School for the Deaf and the Deaf community. His input for our Triennial reunion was memorable. It was a lot of work with the right team of Alumni people. He will be sorely missed by many. Thank you, Tom Bastean for your hard work.

Julie (McKee) Eaker was our beloved member who worked hard as Reunion chair even when she was in pain. Her husband David drove her places, but she put in the work. In the background, she was in pain in her wheelchair, but always had a smile.

Paul Hrabovsky had dedicated his life towards Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association since 1959, as well as Missouri Association of the Deaf and Missouri Association of the Deaf Apartments. This award recognized his efforts for MSDAA and the Deaf community. He was compassionate and a traditionalist, even though times have changed. Behind a great man is his wife, Caroline.

Ella (Johnson) Eakins, what can I say about her but positive accolades for her effort keeping Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association going for many years. She is charismatic, very personable, and not afraid to “speak” her mind in kindness. She has spent hours taking care of business and made many necessary changes.

D-Sport Graphics

President Donald Benfield went to D-Sport Graphics (Columbia, MO) and had them design and made four beautiful plaques far beyond our expectations. Posthumous Honorees received the plaque with leather, which we did not expect. Other two honorees received the walnut plaques, also designed beautifully especially with our logo in color. Thanks to Jennifer B. for her work under D-Sport Graphics. Their work exemplifies as shown (above).

CERTIFICATE AWARDS

John Drury is a great Treasurer being that it was his first time and he applied again for second term. He performed flawlessly. Excellent teamwork without question. He tried his best and he did well.

Jeanne (Southard) Lavelle worked hard as our Law chair who put in the unselfish hours to make our bylaw cleaner and made the necessary changes. She is very articulate, and it was a pleasure working with her via ZOOM since she lives in Virginia. She is also the moderator for Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Facebook page, so she gives a lot of her time to Missouri Deaf community.

Evelyn (Koepke) Wood is a great Membership Secretary and performed flawlessly. Excellent teamwork without question and did well. She always ensured that her task to recruit membership were in good standing. It has been an honor for her to receive this award for her hard work.

Darla (Jenkins) Beck served as a board member for several years. She has participated and shared some concerns but agreed with most officers’ decisions. Board member(s) play an integral part of the board for voting on decision and maintain quorum. With her job, she tried to attend most board meetings, but her responses to e-mails were good.

Dora (Milliam) Bradley gave it her all to the Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association bylaw and attended most board meetings. She worked well with other members such as Ella Eakins and Jennifer Lavelle. MSDAA was fortunate to have her inputs to improve MSDAA.

Cyndra (Spencer) McDavid was a great Treasurer for her first and performed flawlessly. Excellent teamwork without question and did well for the reunion, too. She is very respectful and wholesome lady, a lot like her mother, Audrey, who was the secretary and then as we knew her as Matron.

Richard Paul Miller gave up his time as officer for Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association, Missouri School for the Deaf and advocated for the Deaf community. His primary concerns were that each child with a hearing loss attend the Missouri School for the Deaf, whose parent(s) or legal guardian opted to send their child(ren) to mainstreaming public school.

Patricia (Knorr) Wilson was a great Treasurer and performed flawlessly. Excellent teamwork without question and did well. We recognized her unselfish time for Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association to bring our accounting up to date.

Jennifer (Buckman) Rivera was a great Secretary and performed flawlessly. Excellent teamwork without question and did well even when no one wanted the position during election. I remembered my duties as a secretary and could understand the amount of work she endured for us at MSDAA.

Witt Print Shop

President Donald Benfield went to D-Sport Graphics (Columbia, MO), which they only do the plaques. They referred us to Witt Print Shop. We want to thank Brian Kirmse (Witt Print Shop owner) and his team for designing the 8” X 10” certificates with our Missouri School for the Deaf Alumni Association logo. The certificates were designed beautifully and beyond our expectation. Online Website provides a design tool, which took too much time and was not really user-friendly. Witt Print Shop team was able to create three different beautiful certificates with special words for each member honoree. Their work exemplifies as shown (above).
